As Hartlepool gathered to mark Remembrance Sunday in 2023, the town once again came together to honour the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our nation. This year’s commemoration was led by Deputy Mayor Brian Cowie, a steadfast champion of the Armed Forces and veterans, who took on the honour of laying the town’s wreath at Victory Square. It was a day filled with solemn reflection, unity, and pride, as residents of Hartlepool paid their respects to the fallen.

Later in the day, Councillor Mike Young, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council and the Depyty Mayor, took part in the Memorial Service at Seaton Carew. There, Brian continued the town’s tributes by laying wreaths at the Seaton Carew war memorial. With the same deep respect and solemnity that marked the Victory Square service, paying tribute to the men and women who fought and died in conflict, ensuring that the sacrifices made by Hartlepool’s servicemen and women were remembered.

Seaton Carew’s ceremony was another significant part of Hartlepool’s Remembrance Sunday, and highlighted the town’s commitment to ensuring that all who served are honoured. His role in the day’s events, alongside that of Brian Cowie, demonstrated the deep respect that Hartlepool’s leaders hold for the town’s military history and the importance of continuing these traditions.
