A Truly Historic Moment for Hartlepool and the Conservatives
Hartlepool has made history! For the first time ever, the people of this town have elected
Our candidate, Jill Mortimer, has made us all excited by securing a stunning victory over Labour with nearly 7,000 more votes than her rival. This is a monumental shift, and it proves that the people of Hartlepool are ready for change. Jill called it a "truly historic" moment, and she’s absolutely right. This isn’t just about today—it’s about the years of hard work, dedication, and vision that have brought us to this point.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who joined Jill on a walkabout in Hartlepool, said it best: "This win is a mandate for us to keep delivering for the North East and the rest of the country. People want us to focus on their needs—on jobs, growth, and recovery after the pandemic. The Conservative Party has been listening, and we’re ready to continue working hard to make sure we build back better." Councillor Mike Young, Conservative Group Leader said: "The work really begins now! We have a very short space of time to prove that Conservatives are worthy of residents' support. I have with our coalition group of Councillors pushed hard to produce some fantastic projects for regeneration and we hope that Jill will lobby hard so that we get more from the Government."
This by-election is part of a bigger movement. Across the country, we’re seeing gains in council elections, proving that people are putting their trust in Conservative leadership. And here in Hartlepool, this result is a loud and clear message to Labour that the old days are over.
This is our time, Hartlepool’s time. Together, we’re building a brighter, stronger future. The work has only just begun, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.
